It was such a well thought out and presented question that I didn't want to distract from it.

Yes, Lambert makes a good point
I’m thinking brackets linked to the spine (which protects the transfer box from stresses) and a skid plate under it but not integral to it then?

A separate skid plate would be best but only if you can dedicate enough room to have a sufficient gap between it and the transfer cradle. It shouldn't require too much space unless you really let the beast out when you drive. You could just provide enough to help ensure that any deflection doesn't still cause impact to the cradle. You know more about the ground clearance to an SJ transfer than I do so it would really go back to your opinion on space.

If you don't think having a skid plate below your mount is a good idea, I think you can make a couple of simple additions to your cradle that should help.

Sorry if I planted a monkey wrench in your plans Dave. It's the reason I was so keen to get the separate belly plate for Dreadnought even with the steel case brackets. Now it going to be a significant day ending impact that does for my transfer rather than just a bit of a smack on a stone.

Several competition SJ413 based cars in the Norwegian trial series have a braced and cradled SJ transfer box. Design like the ring that hooks into the bolts and Welded to a cradle connecting the mountings.
Some cars got 200hp volvo turbo engine, and 35" tyres and toyota axles.
Very few has had torque related problems as far as I know. The cars get bashed and crushed of course until something breaks and it all does, but still the 4.16:1 case remain in use for many.
