Curious as to what happened with the water pipe on the rear of the water pump.....could you have swapped it from the Jimny engine?
The 1.3 tb really strangles it.
The water pump on the m13 had a black plastic output thing that the hose to bottom of rad connected to and drops through the engine bracket to the rad.
The m16 was from a front wheel drive car and had a long pipe running towards the gearbox out of the back of its water pump. Both can be taken off, but the bolt pattern doesnt line up and cant be moved around to line up. the short section which joints the pipe to the water pump housing has some sort of crimped in connection, which meant i couldnt swap that part over. I cut the m16 pipe down to miss the inlet manifold & other pipework and routed my new flexi pipe around the back of the engine bracket and under it to the rad. Its a bit of a bodge that i will improve when time permits, but does work well. Flexi pipe cost £15 from local hydraulic specialist.
The 1.6 liana throttle body ive bought is the same as one above, which looks identical to the original m13 vvt one i have (maybe the non vvt m13 engine had a differrent one?). Unless theres something different inside it maybe? - i dont know much about the internals of it. What did you have to do with yours to make it go on? i remember something about stuffing the inlet with rags and die-grinding?!

welcome?! (predictive text?)
Thanks mate, and thanks to all actually for the help and info received.
Brought it home tonight in the wind n rain, ran like clockwork. actually the heater works better and it runs a little cooler so think its got other benefits than just power improvement

Had a good test of everything else as well and cant find anything that doesn't work properly (even the A/C is good!). Vac hubs all working correctly also.
Only annoying thing is remembering which buttons to press to set the radio clock

The inlet manifold from the 1.3 had a smaller diameter inlet Riccy.....all I did was match it to the throttle body.....of course I'm assuming that your 1.3 tb is 45mm....the 1.6 is 50 so after scribing around the diameter of the tb I stuffed the inlet and used a carbide burr in a die grinder and ground it to 50mm......removed the rag and the bulk of the Al dust then vacuumed the inlet manifold.Riccy wrote:

I changed the water side with the 2 pipes as one points the wrong way.
You may well be the first but you won't be the last to put a VVT M16A into a Jimny

There is available a standalone VVT controller for PWM or on/off control......it's available from the US from diyautotune.com (megasquirt makers) for anyone wanting to fit a VVT into a non VVT car.
When time allows I need to make a bigger airbox.....filter fills twice as fast with the turbo.

Its been done a few times but I think that the issue is not that its a VVT engine but that its a Swift engine, the Liana and Jimny engines are lower revving. The Jimny ECU isn't designed to run an engine at high RPM. The Swift is also a much higher compression which could be leading to timing issues, its possible that you are running into knock issues and the ECU is pulling timing. Alternatively you may not have enough fuel at higher RPM. An ECU will be able to compensate for some fuelling changes using the lambda sensor but once you change the shape of the torque curve then its going to be a lot less accurate in more places.
Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.
