Hi All
After reading the caravan reviews above I've sent an email to a Eriba caravan co about one of their little 'puck' caravans. I'm not sure it'll come in at the 700kg figure though. See what I get for a reply. Looks like people have been happily towing up to 1000kg though

Eriba Pucks (700kgs)are certainly suitable for the Jimny and the slightly larger ones. The main problem is that they are considered "classics" so fetch higher prices than comparible other makes.
They are in demand from the VW crowd and other classic car owners.
It all depends on your budget and size of caravan required if you have children?

700kg is just my suggestion. 1000kg would be ok but you are really limiting your speed, especially up and down hills. You are going to be a rolling road-block on any hilly trunk roads!
Also don't believe that review that says he's getting 35mpg with a 900kg caravan. 25mpg maybe if he's lucky!

I agree. This has been my first time towing this caravan with a Jimny. I previously used a 1500 Swift.
The point is it can be done if you are not in a hurry. Think of old landrover on a motorway lol
You can't compete with other traffic so don't try!!
Stay at 50ish and let the trucks go. As a retired class one driver believe me if you sit at 55 ish you will get the wrath of truckers lol. You might think you are doing 55 but you will actually be doing around 2/3mph less and you'll just be be getting in the way.
It has to be remembered that the Jimny itself is quite heavy. I found myself wishing it was 1600 when the speed was dropping a bit on long inclines and the only option was to drop the gears and rev it although I must admit it coped well overall.
You also have to remember you sometimes can't easily accelarate out of trouble so care has to be taken on slip roads etc.
I didn't check my mpg but it certainly suffered and I would advise, if touring Scotland, that you top up when it gets to half mark as fuel was a bit far apart at times or you had to divert off in to local villages to find it (even on the main A9 to Inverness there are no "main rd" petrol stations)and I paid £1.50 a ltr in Durness so beware.
Possibly a good compromise would be a proper folding caravan if you didn't like the idea of a trailer tent.
This would cut down the drag and after many years of touring in tents, trailer tents and caravans you can't beat coming back to solid walls compared to damp canvas

Hi all
I just wanted to say that I'm still on the search for a caravan and will be sorting a roof rack (as we have the seats folded down for the dogs, not for more weight).
I've also found a company to fit the towbar.
I may leave the caravan purchase until next year as we have no holidays left until next year and have to sort out the parking for the caravan.
I'm getting more interested in an a Eriba Puck 120 and possibly an early model as they seem to be lighter at about 500kg for the early 1983 models.
I'll keep you all updated.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationBest time to buy is the winter so keep looking. When springtime comes round peoples thoughts turn to holidays and you'll find prices start going up!!
Don't forget a lot of these pop top/compact caravans will go in a standard garage
These are very good value and come with roof bars so you could also have the option of fitting a roof box??
They also come in 3 sizes at the same price!!
