My jimny seems willing to tow of corse speed and hill climbing power is seriously reduced as expected I made my tow bar so it's detachable but yet very heavey duty most I towed was a tower light witch was plated at 1200kg I must admit this is probly highly illegal but it handled it very well to be honest very slow but it held the weight well and stopped very officantly I very often tow a eight by four wooden trailer and alougth it is gutless and very juicey it never bats a eye lid of tugging a trailer or generator along the motorway at a comftable speed

Don't forget the maximum recommended weight on the standard roof bars is 30kg - the ends are plastic. Only purpose made replacement rack I have found with higher capacity is the rhino-rack at £230 !!

Thanks for all the comments.
I think I'm going to go down the route of having a rack made by MCB 4X4
That'll be next, then the towbar, then the caravan :-))

You can legally tow up to 1350kg so nothing illegal about the lighting tower. Small trailers are fine at speed but the air resistance of a caravan slows things down a lot!

I weighed my boat today and it is 1000kg. The trailer has over ride disc brakes and it stops and drives fine as long as I don't go over 100kph, 90kph was very relaxed. My jimny has 30" tyres and a auto transfer and has plenty of power while towing it.
