The 150bhp that I am looking for will do that, never mind a turbo engine.... Uprated shafts and CV's are in the budget and are a must....

Finally got the rebuilt R7ME box from M&T Transmissions, even though it wasn't their fault for the delay (carriers mess up) they adjusted the bill by. £100 in recompense as I had lost my fitting date and the sale of my R72 box....

Not tapped, the standard breather tube is there and ICE4x4 are joining it to my 8mm tubes....

I got a little despondent following the gearbox delays, it made me consider what it would be like to be without the car for the six to eight weeks that the MX5 engine and box swap would take. Certain family obligations mean being without a car is a pain in everyone's bottom.....

So I have decided to delay the MX5 project until I can afford to give Keith a complete car to work on. I'll keep my eye out for a VVT mot failure later in the year and if finances are still good, have the swap built in to a car and then swapped to mine, if all proves positive.

The R7ME and manual transfer box are in and working fine, frustrated at a noisy thrust bearing and the extended breather being missed but it was always going to be that sort of a job....:(

I came across an M16A VVT engine from a Liana with 120k on it, running fine. I bought it having decided to build a Suzuki engine now that the MX plans were delayed.

The finance fhurer has agreed funds for early spring to allow a rebuild but impatient me decided to have it put in to the car now and just see what I got.

The engine was fitted yesterday and is running fine, there is a notable increase in oomph whilst driving B roads. Yet to try low gears off road but I am quite excited by the prospect.....

Gearing is about bang on for the 30" tyres now fitted, yet to see how far out the speedo is....

So it's been quite a week.... New engine, gearbox and transfer box.... and barring the frustration of having to drop the box again to resolve the noisy spigot bearing, all is well.

Still at 1100kg and probably going to get a little heavier with the cage being completed......

Seats and Lexan windows are the next weight loss goals.... Later in the year....

I have only put a few road miles on and am enjoying the feel of the new engine. Reminds. me of my youth and changing from 1300 to 1600 with the old Ford x-flow in Escorts..... Results are much the same, a bit more power and a good hike in torque, which just makes driving more "comfortable" Less need to push on. The engine ticks over nicely (quietly) and revs freely, it's on Mobil One. It is slower to rev but not massively so.

Gearing appears to be fine, with power matching road speed in all gears. This was my biggest concern as I had already bought the wheels and tyres from Jack..... 70mph is quick to come up and everything still feels eager and wants to push on.Clements in Shirebrook, fitted the engine for £340 which is top value when you look at how far the engines need to be stripped.....
