I did say personally... I'm no expert, just a home modder, and I chose to make mine out of 6mm plate...

You can use whatever you see fit :)

The main thing is having fun building and driving our little trucklets! B)

The ORA front winch bumper is made of thinner sheet, not sure what off the top of my head, but is double-skinned where the winch mounts on the reverse of it -

My ARB winch bumper is made up of different thicknesses, from memory I think it's 5mm for the area around the winch and 3mm for the sides and tube bull bar.

Not had enough spare time to touch the Jimny... wife and daughters are in Crete for two weeks, back on the 31st, so work will resume the week after that... currently running the shop, post office and Bits4Vits, and looking after our two 7 month old Labradors... I was going to work on the Jimny tomorrow, but after a lie-in and being summonsed to my Mum's for a sunday roast they'll be no time spannering ;)

I will be having a quick measure and a sketch for the roofrack-come-treeslider bars that the ORA are going to bend up for me though! B)

Right! Family are now back from sunning themselves in Crete for two weeks, so it's time to crack on again...

Drilled the chassis rails today and then took the slightly modified (to fit round a rear winch) ORA bumper to the powdercoaters, as a phone call earlier in the day had revealed my bumper would tip their silver waiting list. So I took it in to Rhyl today, and should get a phone call Thursday to go pick it up, so that should be fitted and wired up on Sunday...

Need to get a hurry on as we're exploring Shropshire's 'lanes on the 21st...! B)

"Day off" tomorrow (the middle bit anyway) so I need to start stripping the front of the old Vitara "Zukhini" for it's winch and Dyneema rope and fairlead... and behind it... a steel diff with an LSD in it, that's getting sent off to Redacted the "God of Gearing" to get blended into a Jimny front diff from our communal spares (so thanks to Brett and Gary for that), I'll thn swap it with mine and return mine to the communal spares pile ;)

More soon! ;)

There's loads more photos on my blog, but here's a summary for you ;)

Rear ORA bumper back, wired and remounted!

Front and rear now match nicely, and flow nicely along the lines of the trucklet...

Super-bright 6-LED array reversing light / work light / (Gary's "twat" light!)
You can now see where the winch is getting to sit... soon-ish! ;)

Meanwhile, the Zukhini Vitara disappeared off to Vitara Heaven over the wall onto the scrappy's hiab flatbed...!

Switch panel if fully wired now too...

Left to right -
T-Max split charge system
Front 18-LED spot bar
Yellow isolator aircraft switch for:
Rear Winch (not fitted quite yet...soon!) rocker switch
Yellow isolator aircraft switch for:
Front Winch rocker switch
Rear reversing / worklight blue aricraft switch
Internal rear hardtop section 9-LED worklight
Twin horns red round push-to-make switch
Flash 18-LED spot bar blue push-to-make switch
Reversing alarm silence on/off white switch
ARB rear airlocker switch
ARB compressor switch
(Cigarette lighter swapped for iPad charging USB port!)

The rear reverse light / reversing alarm silencer / rear winch controls have all been wired using a run of 7-core trailer wire, which leaves 2 cores spare for the future too. (white reversing alarm silence (it just turns off the reversing alarms earth!), yellow rear reversing spot, blue/green/brown for the winch solenoid, and red and black currently spare - this will serve as a reminder for me when I lose the scrap of paper I've written it on!!!) ;)

Thank you kind sir ;)

Forgot to mention, also got the steering wheel straightened by winding out the steering's track rod ends as in the guide on here (rather than pulling the steering wheel off and just sticking it back on straight!)... took a visit to the local garage (tenner) though, as I couldn't get the buggers to shift... wire brushed, soaked repeatedly with WD40... took a bit of heat from an oxycetaline (sp?) before they eventually shifted!

But steering wheel is now straight ahead though ;)

Oh, and the rear door -

Where those three new shiny bolts from the spare wheel mount can be seen... they are (eventually!) going to be used to hold a jimny-sized ground anchor across the back door, just to finish it off... (eventually!)

Dave ;)

Thanks Guys B)

I can't decide...

What colour to do the ORA sill protectors...

Black or silver?

Half of me thinks silver to match the actual sills and the bumpers...

But then the other half of me says black to match the tree slider bars / roofrack that will be going around the top of the roof to protect both the front soft-top section and the rear hard-top section giving the mad places we take our little Jimnys when 'laning!

What does everyone think?

Here's a couple of photos of Mick's fitted to give you an idea of how they'll look -

That makes me think black...?

Go with the blue / silver / black theme...

Here's the photo of mine again, as we've just gone over a thread page -
