So today was fiddling about with the tipping mechanism mostly. Made up a couple of bits of pipe to represent the actuator. Brackets onto the frame and a cross brace between the chassis rails. Movement is only 200mm on the ram to achieve this sort of tip:
Then made some little tabs to bolt the trailer body onto it:
Slightly distracted having a laugh at the farm lads across the road trying to remove the [bent] body from a defender. Note the young body about to get trapped by a swinging lard-rover, suspended from tractor forks by rope and a bit of wood
enough of that entertainment (they managed ok and no injuries to report). Bit of trial cut and fit on the rear arches...
Not bad, just need to neaten up and make some brackets for them

Busy this weekend tho
Made some rear mudguard brackets and a checker plate for the top:
Decided I didnt like the small bit of checkerplate so made some bigger bits and lots more brackets so its strong enough to stand on:
Got a bit distracted this morning as I was up early. Too early to be noisy with the power tools so had a run to the start of Gatesgarth pass in prep for an upcoming trip. Very nice scenery, but sun unfortunatley [see the gatesgarth topic for pics of that]
Then back home it was onto bolting down the side plates:
They are pretty good now. I have some rubber edge trim to go on once painted up and some sexier bolts.
Next was to sort out a bracket for the spare wheel. After much debate I have decided to put it on the roof, so heres a nice strong bracket for it made using the old rear door bracket:
Finally I also managed to squeeze in taking the doors off and welding up all the holes from the plastics. a bit of filler and primer, they look ok now

The postman has been busy this week with all the different parcels needed for the planned activities.
First on the list was the linear actuator to make the bed tip. Had to swap around the brackets and put another bar in the trailer base as it wasnt working for the initial lift up where I had it originally. Its now the other way around and works well. I sat in the bed at the front end and set it off. Lifted my weight from an old alarm battery without struggling, so I think it will handle the planned loads of logs very well. Rocks and soil might be a bit much for it though
Then found a use for the left over sheet of checker plate:
and the paint stash:
The plan is to paint the body, bonnet, wings, doors and roof with the red colour (RAL3013 'Tomato' red - looks like red oxide to me  ). The bonnet checker plates's, cage, wheel arches underbody, front bumper and back load bed will all be in black, though I may sneak a bit of the red in on the tipper body if its looking a bit too black here and there.
Need to get the cage off tomorrow and finish weld it all. Then its prep everything for painting hopefully on sunday

Allthough Aluminium is not my main material I think you would want to look for a water cutter and not laser. I think laser is too hot for the aluminium. so the edges will be rough. And/or the plates must be of the kind that can take the heat..Riccy wrote: Anybody got a laser cnc cutter? I fancy a Suzuki 'S' in the bonnet plates???
