and finally a few pictures of the rear disc brake conversion...

The hardest part of the conversion was cutting the old brake drum backing plates off

Mine has air con - but not all the extra insulation you've put in or the extra fan, and it doesn't work terribly well as a result. It makes the air slightly less hot, rather than actually cool.

Can you post some pictures of your air con? I would be interested to see where the condenser and hoses have been fitted etc. Also does your Surf have a fresh air intake for the heater from the outside or does it just recirculate the air from the interior? I will try and post a few pics of the heater air intake.

Few photos of the 16" electric fan shroud and mount to replace the mechanical fan. A simple set up using some 5mm ply wood and self adhesive foam strip to ensure a complete seal around the radiator.

The fan is wired to run at all times when the engine is running to keep both the engine and engine bay cool.

Some cheeky bottom pictures as requested! Let me know if there is anything particular you want a good look at :woohoo:

Sorry for not getting back sooner. As it was built by Dutton I'm not entirely sure which bit is the condenser. The air con came from the original donor Jimny, if that's any help. Let me know what/where to photograph and I'll have a go.

I'd let you have a poke around under the bonnet but I'm a bit of a distance from you.

I was never quite sure why the fan is always on. If you've cooled the radiator you've probably cooled the engine bay, haven't you? The problem being is that if you leave the ignition on for any time, perhaps to listen to the radio whilst parked, the battery goes flat.

A huge amount of heat that would normally escape under the car stays in because of the hull. A lot of this comes into the cab. The WWII DUKWs dealt with this by reversing the direction of the air flow. I think this would work on the Surf as you aren't fighting the natural air pressure as you move due to layout of intake. Actually, what would be ideal would be to have the direction one way in summer, sucking air out of the cab, and the other in winter, blowing hot air in.

Are you considering going to the "International Amphibious vehicle meet" at Henley on Thames in August this year. I heard there will be over 100 vehicles attending with a significant number of Duttons?
