Not to me - but only you know what really went on.

If I were to take this entire discussion at face value, there is no mention of any "trauma" to the lower end of the engine, so that suggests it was most likely running with that cracked timing pulley for some time, so whilst the pulley is A problem, I'm questioning if it is THE problem.

One of the things that I'm curious about is you stated that there were no failure codes generated when the cam position sensor was disconnected - why did you not get a P0340?

At the lower part I replaced the oil seal, so I had to remove the sprocket.
Is possible it has an older crack that got worse during this operation, or I handled it poorly, I really can't say.
But the crack was there at first attempt to start the engine.
As the error code for CMP, someone told me is issued only after engine starts, but I cannot confirm or dismiss this info. 
Either way, a crack that big there mean 100% a bad signal fed to ECU.
