Whilst I think about it, would someone care to tell me how a king pin bearing can fall out when been re-assembled?

Nothing holding the bearing in place apart from grease
The hub slides on into place then it holds the bearings in
King pins slide through the hub into bearings

From memory when I rebuilt my SJ 413 hubs the bottom king pin was assembled with the bearing in place on the pin. With the top bearing in place, you offered up the knuckle , bottom first until bottom bearing slides into position and then you push the top into position. At no time can the bottom bearing fall out.
Is this not possible with later marks?
Roger

There isn't enough clearance between the knuckle and the chalice.

"Chalice"- good word!
Roger, access to the bolt heads isn't ideal. I could get a 1/4" drive socket on them with a short extension but not a 1/2". Next time I'll replace them with socket caps.

No idea what a Chalice does on a Jimny.
Busta, how about a short 3/8" socket with a wobble drive extension?
