did Suzuki really make there wiring looms with unconnected plugs everywhere ?

As a matter of fact, most automotive manufacturers, Suzuki included, DO have wiring looms with multiple unconnected plugs - the looms are built to cover several trim levels, and there may be accessories fitted to higher trim levels that the lower levels do not get, so the connectors are left unconnected.

One example, on a JB74 Jimny is the rear speakers - not all models come with rear speakers, but they all come with the wiring for them - just screw the speakers in and plug them in, another is the 12V power outlet near the rear door, not all models have it, but the wiring is there.

This is not a Jimny thing either, I've seen Grand Vitaras & Swifts that had the fog light wiring but no fog lights, I rewired both to use the fog light wiring for spot lights, yes, they are wired differently.

Thanks everyone for your help, I have tried earthing engine but still the same, ,,,engine turns with no start,is it possible that the ECU won't recognise the key code after the body was removed, all wires had to be disconnected for this, if so how do you rectify. What do you think.

A code 12 says the ECU is not detecting any problems, it doesn't mean that there aren't any problems, just that the ECU has not been able to detect them.

If you cranked the engine over with the jumper in place and still got just a 12, that would suggest the ECU is seeing the output from the cam position sensor, if not you would/should have ended up with a 42.

Yes, it is possible for the ECU or rather the immobilizer to not recognize the key, this would show as one of the 8X codes.

If the ECU is not reporting a problem we have to resort to basic old school mechanic tests - you may need someone to help you with these - let's test for spark first.

Remove the #1 sparkplug, or if you have a spare plug you can use that, reattach the spark plug lead and ground the body of the plug to the cylinder head - now crank the engine and see if you get sparks at the plug gap.

If you have spark, that would suggest a fuel issue, reinstall the plug & reconnect the plug lead - get a starting fluid aerosol and spray it into the throttle body whilst your assistant cranks the engine - will it start & run on starting fluid?

If you like you can skip the spark test & do the starting fluid test first - if it runs on starting fluid, it has spark and the problem is fuel related. If it doesn't run on starting fluid, that would point to an ignition related problem.

Let me know how things go and we can plan a way forward. I'm going to be travelling over the next few days, so if you don't see a response, just hang in there

Yeah thanks, there is no spark I tested this a while back, fuel is fine into the injector tube, the engine light always went out before starting, now it permanently on ,it seems to me like the key code is not being recognised? I'll keep at it anyway.
