It's one of the things I like about the jimny is that if it's not overly obviously modified it's impossible to tell if the driver works the land or owns it, it's possible to just blend in as part of the background. With the roof box on though it's quite obvious you're probably not a local..don't get me wrong I don't think it's the end of the world being stood out from the crowd but anonymity has it's appeal.

Took my Jimny to the Yorkshire Moors and Dales for the weekend with Trails & Tracks for 2 days on the lanes.
Another fantastic weekend away and even met up with forum member me101 on Saturday night, who came along for dinner.
Pictures and videos on my blog when time, a backlog and hard disk space permits.

A few weeks ago James' SJ failed the MOT on headlamp aim and emissions. You will have seen my recent video short on "left hand drive" headlights, so that issue was sorted by purchasing the correct headlamps.
Moving on to the emissions, these were 3.5-3.6% CO which was too high (3.5% is max for this age of vehicle). Now the carbs on these are known to be fiddly and tempermental, so I could see the fix could involve going backwards and forward to the garage until we got it correct. This would run up a bill.
Therefore I invested in the dreaded Gunsons GasAnalyser. Why "dreaded", they are notoriously inaccurate for modern cars. Indeed at +- 0.5% accuracy they are more inaccurate than the typical reading required on a modern ECU controlled fuel injected car. So you could never read a car that has a 0.5 required reading..
However the SJ is carbed and only needs to be below 3.5%. On the MOT test rig it was around 3.5 to 3.6 % CO. On the home test the Gunsons read 3.0, so you can see that within the range of error this could be 3.5%, the same as the MOT. I treated this as a "calibration" for the tool.
Next hurdle was the mixture control, this is tamper proof (you require the correct tool). Having tried a likely looking tool from ebay (didnt fit) I resorted to cutting off the tamper ring.
Then it was a quick tweak on the driveway and we were down to 0.8 % which is 1.3% based on the original "calibration"
Suzuki say it should be 1.5% +- 0.5% so between 1% and 2% so we are right on the money.
Job done!
