Time for some more repairs then? :(

Ripped the panhard mount of my rear axle today whilst out greenlaning - www.bits4vits.co.uk/store/greenlaning-lo...02/17-/blog_366.html

So, time to disassemble the panhard rod and the Zanfi bracket, and weld / brace the old mount back to the rear axle then?

Spookily, on Saturday - the day before our greenlaning trip - I'd ordered a "new" ABS rear axle casing off a breaker on eBay to use as a template for making some new Jimny products (as "ZookBOB" on eBay, not Bits4Vits) so that will be here on Tuesday / Wednesday f I need to replace the axle casing... Weird Huh?

Just fitted one of my new "ZookBOB" steering damper brackets...

Old steering damper, but new bracket... in the middle hole, to...

... to keep the damper nice and straight and parallel to the axle.

I'm probably running a 3" lift as my springs have sagged a bit... another job to do! :(

Today, I finally got around to fixing my Panhard mount that was ripped off my rear axle the last time we went 'laning...

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4756.jpg ]

Notice the angle?

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4758.jpg ]

Whoops, a big crack!

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4759.jpg ]

With all the bolts out, the whole thing comes away... it was only the Zanfi bracket bolted to the radius arm bolt that was holding everything in place!

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4755.jpg ]

Up on ramps for access...

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4761.jpg ]

Axle bracket still inside!

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4762.jpg ]

Out...

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4763.jpg ]

Now I can see where it's sheared off :(

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4764.jpg ]

All cleaned up and ready for welding...

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4766.jpg ]

Reattached and checking where the Zanfi bracket sits so that I can add strengthening gussets without fouling the fit of the panhard extension bracket.

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4767.jpg ]

Trusty cardboard templates...

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4768.jpg ]

... transferred to steel plate

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4769.jpg ]

About to weld it in...

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4774.jpg ]

And then another one to stop the twisting effect of the raised panhard mount...

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4776.jpg ]

As good as new?!

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4778.jpg ]

Lick of hammerite

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4779.jpg ]

Cheating getting everything lined up again... rear winch comes in handy!

[img] www.bits4vits.co.uk/panskid/DSCN4781.jpg ]

All back together with new nuts and bolts everywhere... B)

Ready to 'lane again!

Next job then, being as the Jim' was up in the air...

I got a JimnyBits rear axle / diff skid as soon as they were released :) And then they promptly went on SALE the day after, so I lost out twenty quid :( , which I'm still waiting for Russ! ;)

First job... drain the oil? Huh?

LOL  Since the guard bolts to the bottom two diff bolts ;)

Et' Voila!

Nice easy fitment... The bolts are cosmetically a bit long though? Just me being over picky?

Done!

Good opportunity to change the oil in the rear axle at the same time :)

Well done Dave nice fix B)

Think Russ should definitely think about length of the bolts supplied for the diff attachment I used the original ones as they were longer :)

And yeah the axel bolts are very long

you need some new thick welding gloves ... unless the middle-finger missing was intentional?

Jalapeño, IISY?
