We could always take the bull bar and jerrican off
(I wasn't thinking of getting the armed version)

After the 2yrs negotiations we may, over time, start changing rules but it won't happen overnight so in the meantime we'll just carry on as we are.
I know everything EU is not always best when it comes to UK interests and this would be an import but I can't see it catching on in the same way the Lada Niva has never really caught on.
If Kia or another manufacturer could bring them in on a reasonable scale at a reasonable price with full manufacturers support they might have a chance.
Let's face it most Lada dealers and others in their day were always back street type importers in a similar way to Chinese motorcycle importers/dealers who eventually disappear.
The Santana (Spanish LandRover) never really took off either although in some ways it was better than a genuine landrover.
We'll just have to wait and see what the Jimny eventually looks like.

Farmers run cheap quads or old estate cars, they don't spend the money that defenders cost, which is why they have finished.
We might want one, but we are not many, compared to the number who will buy a bloated hatchback with an automatic clutch to lock the back axle to the front whenever the front [strike]tyres wear down[/strike] wheels go faster than the back ones, or even a crippled bloated hatchback that can't even do that much.
1500 units a year is hardly going to keep Suzuki afloat.

.
When I go on fields I don't engage four wheel drive unless I really need to. In fact with the sort of winters we have been getting I don't seem to call on 4WD much at all. Ironically I could leave mine in 4x4 mode all the time. I like motors that have some sort of viscous coupling or similar that give instant on demand four wheel drive so on slippery roads like wet roads I feel a bit more sure footed. For me the 4x4 has always been a source of high commanding views of the road (but a Transit might do there and adios four wheel drive) and is a big reason for owning one.
