Yes I bemoan the way the 4x4 market has gone. I loved the SJ type of look...nearly all gone. Is the situation the same in the US? Or do they retain their own say so in what they do?

That is a very, very good point Rhinoman. I still frequent several LR forums and there's much wailing and gnashing of teeth over the demise of the Defender but none of the people I personally know who've been moaning had ever supported the company by putting their hand in their pocket and actually buying one new.
