No need to buy anything!

Just take the hubs off (torx bolts) the centre part is spring loaded, put them into the locked position, bolt them back up and pull the pipes off the hub.

Ideally you want to block off where the pipes were connected to the hub to stop any muddy water getting in.

Thanks, therefore when this is done its in 4 wheel drive therefore u would then need to reverse this action ever time you then go onto the open road, is that right?

No, if you manually lock the front hubs but select 2wd it will still just be 2wd.

Normally when you select 4wd the vacuum system is triggered to activate the front hubs, this wont happen anymore as they are already selected / activated.

The difference is that in 2wd, as the front wheels are being pushed along they are turning the drive shafts and the diff and the front prop which will add a small amount of drag, wear&tear, etc. but I cant see it being an issue. And the drag / mpg difference isnt even noticeable.

Well I've got three option:

Replace all the vacuum piping and hope that resolves the issue
Manually lock the front
Or
Fit a set of manual locking hubs From Bits4Vits

Looking at this and other forums There seems to be a majority going for The third option.

What does everyone think, need to get it sorted Asap

Its dead easy to fit manual hubs and the ones from bits4vits are great value and at least you know they work.

For me I felt I could have spent £30+ on replacing the vacuum piping and it still not work, so biting the bullet and spending the money on the manual hubs I know will work was the best option for me.

All depends on if you have a spare £160 floating around. If you do then go for it!

If I was doing it all again, I would have just left the fronts locked and kept my money in my pocket.

keep your eye on ebay as they appear on there from time to time and go for about £65 but make sure you get the cone washers as well and you'll still need martins adapter kit
also jimny bits sells the new ones as well

I could start selling these kits but I think that if enough people ask Martin Lines, maybe he could get something arranged. Like I said I fitted this set up to three jimnys with 100 percent success rate...
Manual hubs are good and fixed hubs would give you less mpg plus premature wear of the front axle oil seals. Pneumatic hubs all the way for me B)
