Not quite the postman, but I took myself into town (regrettable due to every other human in existance having the same idea) and got my hands on all the stuff I need to fit my big battery. Just need to make myself a battery tray in the morning then get it wired up ready for the winch :)

It's a 12-24 volt solenoid from a Toyota 80 series Land Cruiser :)
On a diesel 80 series, the starter motor is 24 volt, but the charging system and rest of the vehicle is 12 volt.

But it can also be used for overvolting a winch, just like the much more expensive Turbo Controller from Goodwinch :)

In short, it switches between parallel and series wiring of 2 batteries. But only for the output to the startermotor/winch.

A new battery. It has given it a new lease of life.
