my high level stop light had died, it had also become annoying that my rear wiper didn't self-park anymore, it just stoped at whatever location I released the knob at, and now that I came to think about, I'm sure it used to work on an intermittent cycle, and not wipe constantly as it does now.

time to investigate ....

the trim on the rear door comes off really easy ...
unscrew the lock pop-up button thing
then insert a large flathead driver in the lower trim slots and gently prise off (pop - pop)

then simply work from the lower right in a clock-wise driection popping the trim off

didn't break any clips :)

now we can see what goes on

and the problem was ............
x3 snapped wires where the harness leaves the truck body an enters the read door .. inside the rubber sheath. The harness wires are far too thin and rigid and anyone who regularly uses their rear door will encounter this problem at some stage.

The issue was resolved by soldering in some new lengths of wire, in my case wire stripped from an old iron, it was far more substantial and very flexible ... it'll never fail again

now I'm flashing and wiping everywhere :pinch:

I think this is the first time I have seen this thread. Nice job Mike.

spotted some rust through the tiny gap to the jack space under my flooring so thought it time to peak,

WTF ..... 2007 jimny, well OK that's 8 year old now - but confused as rust hasn't come through from underneath, it's actually top down rust, has the GWP been that scared by my driving that she's wet herself

immediate action - unleashed the rust convertor - this ones the Flagg Rust convertor from toolstation

next step will be to take the side panels out again, check for any more, then smooth hammerite the lot ;)

so much happening at the lotty at the moment that may run out of decent weather to get the underside done :(

noticed my rear door strut was rather noisy and may have been the perpetrator of the clunking i'm suffering from, so asked a favor from Dan (Daniel30) and this was what he came up with

it sounded so much quieter than mine that I felt I must be onto something

here's mine

so it was off with the bumper and the wrecking commenced

removed at the bumper fixing,

the door fixing was totally seized so destruction prevailed

I shall deal with this later

here's the strut,

the ball does not separate from the cup

first impressions indicate the clunking has gone, but shall test in morning without the beast jumping around in the boot.

during the process thought may as well may a bumper removal guide that may be of use to some

Nice guide on bumper removal Mike. B) Looks very similar to my Junior. Do you have any pics of the off bumper? And the bracketry that holds the skin?

Have we ever thought of removing the stay completely? On my Paj it is just a bar that can be locked in place when the door is opened. Maybe replace said gas strut/shock with a bar??

Here's another approach
