If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Manually operated hubs. £200 or so new. (I'll help you fit them)
The really really cheap option is to chuck away the pipework, put little caps over the pipe spigots on the hub and lock the air operated hubs into drive. (I can help you with this too)
They will stay in drive forever, and all that happens is the axle turns when you go along.
This loses a couple of MPG, and the axle will wear faster.

I had the flashing light of no 4wd too. Fixed it last night. All I had to do was remove all the pipes and re-pipe it in plastic and then it still didn't work so I swapped all the valves and associated gubbins and it works. What a pain!!!!
I have AVM hubs on my other jimny and I just leave them in 4wd most of the time. I just flick them into 2wd for long journeys. So Facades way of locking the hubs and leaving them would be fine. Especially if you just do short journeys.
Remember to join the two wires on the vacuum sensor to stop the green 4wd light from flashing.

Thanks guys, I'll have to figure out in my head which is the best option and go from there...
Facade - Thanks for your offer mate, I think I'll need it! Whichever I do I'll make sure I sort you some cash out. Do you think it's worth checking my Jimny over first in case it's not worth spending money on? It's a bit tatty but I love it to bits!

It won't take above 20 minutes to lock the hubs and check it is working in 4wd for the winter (and it won't cost you anything at all in parts), I could do with a visit to Cannock shops one Saturday morning soon, could pop over and take a look.
If it has an MOT, good tyres, and runs well it is worth keeping and spending on as it need it.

That would be great yeah, I live over by Hednesford Hills Raceway if you've ever been? It's 5mins from Sainsbury's/KFC.
I think I'd like the manually locking diffs as I do a fair few miles and like the option of 2WD. If you want to lock it in 4WD temporarily to make sure it works okay I understand, and if there's any major issue then I guess I could get used to permanent 4WD. I've taken a couple more pictures tonight to further illustrate the issue...

Looks like your Jim has been "used offroad"
People drive them in mud, then leave the mud clinging to the axles to cause all manner of corrosion.
How come there are two large broken pipes in the second picture, but the air pipes appear to run behind them?
You can re-plumb the air system in plastic, and resurrect it, or go for the AVM type hubs.
I'll pm you Friday if I'm free Saturday.
