4WD Light Flashing? was created by SteBurns
My Jimny never goes off-road so I never use the 4WD, but yesterday I drove down some muddy lanes so I dropped it into 4WD mode. The 4WD appeared to be working, but the light on the dash was flashing.
Is this normal? I don't have a manual so I can't check... What could I look for? What could it be?
Thanks.

You could try stopping and reversing slowly. Go backwards and forwards a couple of times that usually does the trick.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

You have a vacuum leak, and the front hubs are not working, so likely the 4wd doesn't work.
Easiest thing to check: pop the bonnet, and look for a rubber pipe about 8mm diameter leading from the inlet manifold to a birds nest of rubber pipes under the battery. If this is split or disconnected the light flashes.
If it is intact, you need to look at all the rubber and metal pipes underneath, from the hubs all the way back to that birds nest under the battery.

It would appear that the 4WD isn't working, I've tried going forwards and backwards but it had no effect. I've had a look under the bonnet, but I was distracted by a pipe that didn't go anywhere, and a lead that was also dangling free. My technical knowledge is pretty low, so I took pictures to illustrate...

The lead with the sensor on plugs in the side of the air box to read air intake temperature.
The pipe is just a vent for the emissions charcoal cannister.

That would make sense as the previous owner fitted an aftermarket air filter, thanks.
Are there any good Midlands-based Jimny specialists that people could recommend? I'd rather not take it to Suzuki!
