Give the bolts a good soaking in Plus Gas a few days before you start.
My bolts were removed, shearing one of them, then rather than remove the tank, it was just lowered and covered with a damp blanket.

Don't they hot-dip galvanise the bodies in UK? My Jimny body looks like new compared to the above pics. I'm working underneath it today to remove the rear axle and everything is solid, no sign of rust and my Jimny spends most of its' working life off-road as I am an earthmoving operator (Scrapers, dozers, excavators, graders, dumpies etc) and my car goes everwhere as I don't like walking. I do clean it when I leave sites and get home but nothing special.

I believe they started galvanising them after 2002 or something like that, perhaps the Spanish made ones, I'm not sure?

mine is an 04 and is galvo
Trouble is, the welded joints go scabby and spreads slowly. Underneath the seatbelt bolts there is a big lump welded to the floor. The welds have gone rusty and exposed some un-galvo material. I have just cleaned all the loose rust off and used hammerite underseal.
The previous owner hadn't got much idea when it came to cleaning... so a clod of mud probably sat in-between the chassis rail and floor for months!
