you can also get hardened halfshafts and cv joints from places like DG Tuning www.dgtuning.com/
exterior axle strengthening trusses www.ora-store.com/
(they also do a mean tubular body conversion called the assassin)
Then add difflocks - ARB or Kamlocker or lockrights depending on budget
with a 4.5" lift you'll fit 33s without too much bother if you are going to tube it

As has been mentioned, stock axles ae fairly weak. One option might be SJ axles with Vitara Diffs which seem to be a stronger option.

Failing that, Land Rover axles are cheap as chips and a whole lot stronger, without weighing as much as Toyota etc.

The strongest easily available axles are Toyota 80 Series - but they are quite heavy. You've probably already seen my thread here about putting 80 axles on.

Mine cost under £400 and come with difflocks as standard.

Hi Simon

Do you know how much your 80 axles fitted Jimny weigh ?

Not precisely - but I reckon about 150kg the pair. Front is about the same as a Land Rover, rear the same as a Land Rover Sallisbury. That's about double the weight of stock Jimny Axles.

Sorry, didn't make myself clear :-)

I meant the whole car with LC 80 series axles fitted :-)

My previous vehicle (pictured in my Avatar) based on a Vitara weighed in at 870kg including 2 winches and 37" tyres on Beadlocks. This one will be a bit heavier for various reasons.

I'm aiming for 1000kg but will be happy with 1200kg all up.

The Jimny with all the seats, trim & soft top removed weighs under 900kg which should bring it in at 1100kg fully built up. I'll weigh it when it's finished (I have an Avery Load cell to dangle it from).
