Jimny diff protection was created by tyddy
Hi Everyone, I just bought my first Jimny and was thinking bout purchasing some under body protection for the few components that are un able to be easily lifted. I was wondering where I could purchase some guards for the front and rear diff and also how important it is to protect these components. I am still very new to Jimny's so any advice I could get would be much appreciated. Also I am from Australia so any products suggested would have to be accessible from Australia.

Save your money for diff protection, unless you drive in very rocky terrain.

The ORA do something similar, weld-on plates designed to protect the crown wheel from impacts...

Hello, my front diff protection is "homemade"

A fraction of the compressor cover a obsolete fridge ;)

I broke my rear diff/axle housing on a rocky outcrop. Had to tie it all together, remove the drive shaft and drive out on front wheel drive dragging my sorry arse behind so they do break.

Now got this on the front, never did make one for the rear, been too slack.

Stupidity and a rush of blood ;) It was a lovely sunny afternoon in the Flinders Ranges, waaaay north of Adelaide in South Ausy. Hooning around and came over a crest at speed, came down on a rocky outcrop. Housing parted on the left weld to diff housing. Tied it all together with 8 guage an some timber after slipping the tailshaft out. Then put Jimny in 4wd so engaging the front drive and frontwheel drove it out to my trailer, hooked that up and drove south until I met up with a truck that carried me down to Elizabeth. Then arranged for rear axle assembly to be shipped from Queensland and put it on at Frieght depot. Interesting 4 days and truckies let me stay in the office at depot while I worked on Jimny. :D

Breaking the axle housing like you did there wouldn't have been avoided with a diff guard. Instead you need to weld on an axle truss on top of the axle. This greatly improves strength. That snow-plow thing you mounted may take a good beating, but it does not make the axle stronger. Also, it make the axle much more prone to hit something, as it has so big and area and sits so low.
