That may be.
But it will also prevent the front tyres from digging in, getting traction.

If rear axle traction is sufficient, why even bother engaging 4WD
I really can't see the point in those huge snowplows some of you fit to the front axle. But hey.. your money

my home made guard,similar sort of thing,had this fitted when i had my smaller tyres did offer good protection but i got hung up on it a few times.when i had a run out in the snow it acted as a plough and really held me back.see other pic.i now dont run it but do intend to modify it so it follows the axle,im running larger tyres now that when i first had it fitted so shouldnt be as much of in issue.
