Bits4Vits wrote: The radius arms need to deflect side to side, "twist" under articulation, with something rigid bolted between them this is obviously hampered...?
Think of one arm going up, and the other arm going down... now think about bolting something in between them, and again imagine their movement under articulation... one up, one down...
the arms and bushes are bolted between the axle brackets so the arms flex inside the brackets
the axle brackets are welded direct to the axle so they move all as one
this guard sits in between the brackets so moves as one with the axle
which means the radius arms flex as they are inside the axle brackets and not connected to the guard, the movement in the suspension is just the rubber bushes flexing

Bits4Vits beanie hats????
Put me down for one of those Dave!!
I don't intend spending loads lifting mine so anything to minimise damage whilst on my way to the pub :silly: works for me.

I don't have it on day to day but it's taken a bit of a beating lately.
with one of those, you're sure to catch every little rock and bump.
Fun fact - everyone says that my bash plate must massively reduce my ground clearance but I've measured it and t t only decreases ground clearance by about 5mm. The front diff drain plug partially protrudes through hole
And Ive never had a problem with articulation. As the terrain changes, the radius arms move up and down and the plate just follows suit.

I've got a bash plate like yours and I find it helps to get over things where the diff would dig in and catch it now slides over

That's the whole point of it, not so much to stop you stoving your diff pan in but more of an aid to getting it over rocks, mud etc.
It's not a bash plate but a skid plate.
Especially for those of us running no or minimal suspension lift it can be used as a tool to aid navigation of otherwise impassable or tricky obstacles without taking too much damage.
Coupled with a decent height suspension lift where a couple mill of ground clearance lost would make less of a difference I would have thought more people would be fitting them.
