Oooh, a parcel from James J999PRE... what can that be?...

A front axle casing! To go with my rear one in the garage (diff for sale soon)...

Going to truss them up, and strengthen the axle to radius arm brackets as my holes are going oval again already! (I can't think why? ;) )

Got back from the bank today to find a cash machine engineer's van in my spot outside our house, so I popped the gold Jimny on the forecourt next to the big blue S200KYS one... Thought it made a nice photo -

Before the trip, I had a few jobs to do...

One of which was the rear axle bolt holes had elongated just a touch...

:S

So as a temporay measure, until the spare axle I have in the garage is trussed up, I...

Cut some 6mm thick strips, and drilled 12mm holes in them...

And line them up ready for welding in place to keep the axle in the right place for now...

So I need to get that axle trussed up and a pair of new rear shocks as they have rubbed on the springs as the axle has twisted undo load :(

So I might as well upgrade to SuperPro bushes at the same time and replace the sagged springs too...

"Hello, is that the bank? Can you extend my credit card limit?" LOL ;)

Rebuild soon, when I've gathered all the bits and have time inbetween 'laning trips... :(

My rear shock on the driverside now catches on the panhard mount, the same as yours does i think. I had put it down to the KAP arms, which are a bit longer?

Ive been thinking about trussed axles as well. does it make them that much stronger? i suspect my front one is a bit bent already. If your back one is twisted/bent then maybe that was causing the noise with the TG shafts you had machined down?

Hi Riccy ;) Missing you! ;)

I want to brace the mounting holes for the axle to radius arms more than anything, but I thought I might as well fit a truss at the same time... we've all seen the horror photos of the snapped-at-the-weld axle with the half shaft visible!

Although I have superpro bushes all round, I do wonder if they are too stiff and causing too much wear on the axle plates. Perhaps genuine ones (although not as long lasting) would be kinder as they are more flexible?

Thoughts?

Phil

PS Got the HD shafts fitted - but had to use one of the used CV's, as the new one was a too tight on the shaft.
