Any reason for not running rear spring clamps?
Great build will have to spend an evening having a read through your laning blogs now too!

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration
You'd think I would run rear spring clamps, especially considering I sell them -
But my spring and total shock length (with repositioners/spacers on the bottom) are matched perfectly, so I never thought I'd need them... until losing a shock!
So they'll be going on in the impending rear rebuild, it was going to be Wednesday / Sunday but will now be Sunday / Sunday as the Gold daily driver Jimny failed it's test this morning and requires a bit of welding before the retest, which needs to be done within a week to get a free retest...
My ProComp rear shocks have taken a battering (still running AVO shocks on the front), I emailed JB for a price for their 'Black Raptor' brand ones (which look just like AVO ones) but never got a response, but in the meantime I found these -
Some trailmaster shocks I had returned to me when I was a dealer for them a few years ago, from what I recollect the customer complained they squeaked a bit, but that won't bother me, I won't hear them over all the other noise
And these are due to land tomorrow -
Limiting Straps from Damar Webbing, who I've used many times over the years
To stop the shocks drooping to full stretch and the piston hitting the top of the tube...
So it's time to cut another hole in the floor to make a new shock top mount again, and then reassembly using the new bits above, including the spring clamps you mentioned
The repair of the other side is featured way back on Page 82 of this build thread

Thanks Daniel30
I fixed the rear shock today...
I emptied everything out of the Jimny...
And removed the rails for my two storage boxes - tools and spares
I stripped the tar sound deadening with a hot air gun and a chisel
And then cut a matching hole in the offside, I did the nearside a few months ago!
To be able to make a new mount to weld under the old failed one...
And the painted it with Hammerite before...
Welding the patch back into the floor and painting that too...
'New' Trailmaster Combat shocks fitted
Drilled the spring seats and...
Swapped the rear springs from Mercedes saloon ones, back to JimnyBits front diesel +4" springs...
And secured them with some spring clamps.
Whilst doing it, I coudn't help but notice a small hole in the jack well, so I had a pick at it, and it got bigger and bigger
So I made a trusty cardboard template. and then transferred it to steel sheet...
Welded it in and the hammerited it all again...
Just need to sort, check and reload everything back into the Jimny, now I've hoovered and cleaned the interior...

Trailmaster combat? Are they a new thing and any firmer than the sport ones?

Definitely not a new thing as they've been hanging round in the Bits4Vits stock for years after being returned by a customer (for squeaking if I remember correctly) when I used to deal with trailmaster (by Maas, the German company not the US one of the same name).
From memory they were a competitive range, to 'combat' cheaper brands...?
They just happened to be the same length as the battered ProComps I took off... hmmm, or actually, they fell off themselves?! :woohoo:

Another month, so of course another trip out with the Jimnys...
This time around all the Tight and Scratchy 'lanes in my neck of the woods!
greenlaning.blog/2018/08/17/tight-scratc...ales-coast-12-08-18/
Some more 'lanes to cross off on my local Landranger map... we keep finding, researching and driving new ones even years on!
The drawing pins are all 'lanes we've driven, the yellow pin is my house, and the black circle is a fifteen mile radius of it...
Enjoy the blog!
Some repairs to do before next trip (to Northumberland for the weekend) though -
A tree claimed the passenger side door mirror...
And some others gnarled my snorkel guard too!
