How to increase steering wheel reaction? was created by THOR
Hi guys...anybody knows how to increase the steering wheel reaction?
My steering feels very light and there is a delay when i turn the steering wheel before the wheel turns where i want it to go.
I experienced this after a suspension lift. I already installed a steering stabilizer for vibrations and shimmy.
Additionally, I hear a clacking sound when I turn the steering wheel initially, then the sound would be gone...

sounds like you need Caster Corrected Radius Arms or Bushes!

hi maverick thanks for the reply...
recently i had my jimny checked for wheel alignment, and they said that my caster and camber alignments are ok (toe needs a little adjustment).
do i still need a caster correction arms and bushes?

oh by the way, i did not install an adjustable panhard rod...i'm still using the stock.
So my axle is a bit off-centered and out to the left a bit...
can this cause the problem with my steering (including the clacking sound)?

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

A cracking sound is most likely dry kingpin bearings.
A knock is play in a steering joint.
To get more self centring reaction you need more caster angle.
Having the axle out of line will make the car crab and steer a bit odd, as well as moving the wheel off centre.

hi facade...
so i need to lubricate the kingpin bearings?
how do i correct a play in the steering joint?
I guess i really have to install an adjustable panhard rod, because the steering sometimes is a bit odd..as you mentioned sometimes "crab-like"..
i think i will install the caster correction bushes later, as i don't need self-centering reaction from my steering too much...
sorry, i'm such a newbie at this...

hi guys...
regarding the clacking sound...i noticed that the i hear the sound and feel it at the steering wheel near the end of the steering action (both left and right turns)...this means that when i'm steering left or right and nearing the point when i could not steer anymore, i hear the clacking sound.
a mechanic said that the problem is coming from the tie rod. He said that when i had a suspension lift, this created stress on the tie rod. I took some fotos so u guys could have a look...
do i need to put a spacer on the tie rod to radius arm joint?

The clacking sound sounds to me like either a worn CV joint clicking or a tyre rubbing somewhere.
You need to reduce the size of the photographs otherwise they will not upload.

thanks Martin...what is the size limit for the fotos?
my jimny is 2010 model so it is just a few months old...the CV(?) could not be worn.
i'm pretty sure it's not the tyres rubbing...
