Hi all, I’m still on the hunt to fix my vacuum hub problem. Big thanks to Facade for all the help so far. Can anyone tell me how to take the vacuum solenoid off? 

it’s the next job on the list. But I’m damned if I can get it off, To clean it and run some checks. 

my current state of play is when I turn the engine on it disengages the collar on the hub. So looks like a solenoid leak.

From vague memory, the solenoids dangle from a flat metal plate that is held to another larger rusty bracket by two very rusty bolts. The bolt heads face up. I managed to undo mine when it was about 10 years old....

The larger bracket unbolts somehow too.

If you can't get them off, pull the pipes and squirt the ports full of GT85, then apply 12V to the terminals and get it to click a few dozen times. If you can't find some reliable safe way to connect the wires, use an inline fuse, if you touch them together and you are using the battery something will get very hot very quickly.

Actually, before you squirt, get a long piece of hose-washer pipe or something, and try and blow into the port that went to the vacuum tank- the vertical one at the top. It should be sealed when the solenoid is off. I bet one of yours leaks through to the side port all the time.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
