The size or aggressiveness of the tread pattern aren't big issues, it's the weight that's the killer. Those Wormdrives are going to be significantly heavier than the Duelers and getting them rolling from stationary needs more effort. Lots of stop/start driving in heavy traffic will show a much bigger difference in economy than long runs on a motorway.

The Wormdrives are LT tyres with a heavier load index, so will have a heavier construction. Take a wheel off and weigh it - probably 3 or 4kg heavier than stock. I can't find a fuel economy label for them (they're marked as Professional Off Road, which doesn't scream economy to me!), but the similar Maxxis Bravo A/T are marked 'G' for economy, which is as low as it goes. Dueler H/T in 195/80 are marked 'C'.

Since having 215/75/15 BFG's on Steel modulars that's dropped to around 32-33 mpg. I haven't done any other modifications that would add weight to the vehicle, the added rotational weight is the culprit!

Thanks for the info. I think you are the only other person on here that I've seen to have figures like this. Quite comparable it would seem. :)
