I once had my classic car waxoyled at a specialist in Morpeth, called The Waxworks. They don’t seem to be in business any more. Was your Jimny waxoyled at a specialist or an everyday garage?

I am looking for a local company to rust proof my Jimny and would like info on why you chose Waxoyl and how much they charged for the work?
Cheers

Roger

Having a compressor and stands I do my own. I use waxoyl because I started with it when Dreadnaught was new, literally the first thing off the forecourt. So having started I will finish. The thing is that the prep is the biggest task, removing loose anything and touch in any open rust with conversion and paint then I waxoyl but that's quick. When I started there wasn't any cheaper coating like buzzweld are now.

Replied by TillymintDLG on topic What did you do to your jimny today?
Back box joint blew out (Don't forget the paste)

The tale is told over a couple of days but goes like this....
I could not get the nuts undone, even though I soaked them straight away for 24 hours, seized solid and had corroded smaller of time.
A 16mm socket rounded the nut and a 15mm would not go on at all! Captive bolts didn't help either..

My other option was to get a new back box and joining pipe to the Cat, but I would have struggled doing that on my drive so,
out with my new cordless grinder..

and then the hacksaw

Halfway there...

Done.

I had already ordered a custom made reducer (50mm to 42 mm)

Confession: I didn't put jointing paste on and, after tightening up it was blowing slightly, so went to my local 'dealer' and
got a tube of 'Klarius' jointing paste, so off it all came and liberally applied a generous amount (it was only the joining pipe side that was passing, not the back box side!)
Let it run for 10-15 mins per instructions and took it round the block.
Sorted! Was pleasantly knackered after though..

Cheers
Gaz

I remember helping my brother Waxoyl his MG about 35 years ago, it was a horrible job, so when my local garage said they did it I jumped at the chance. Apart from anything else I don’t have a garage big enough to get my Jimny in and the local garage charged me £120 which sounds quite good to me.

I wish I had more space and the time to do jobs like this myself, but I don’t and the misses wouldn’t thank me for coating the drive in Waxoyl.

Why Waxoyl, I know it from old and my mechanic friend swears by it. Apparently Drintol is the other front runner, used by the army, so it must be good.
