Well, I took the Jimny to a local auto electrician of Friday who advertises in Yell.com. They also do MoT’s so I asked them to repair the brake lights and then MoT it as it was due next week. He said that it looks in good condition when we pulled in. Got a call at lunch time today that he put it through the test and it failed on a fuel leak, the brake lights not working and corrosion in several areas. Now I spent a few hours under it again this summer treating spots with rust converter, paint and lanolin bases waxes and I didn’t notice any significant corrosion. It’s hardly moved since but, it is what it is. I’m confident he's been excessively harsh on checking it and also that it’s eminently repairable but it’s at the end of the road with us after 23 years in my partners ownership. I’ve had to retire early on health grounds and my partner too, so finances are tight and we can’t afford to keep spending on what was a second car. It’s done 52,800.miles from new and is now 26 years old. The four wheel drive works as it should ( pipes replaced a few years ago) and it runs fine. I’ve uploaded a couple of photos of the zink based primer and black top coat in progress a few months ago while doing the exhaust. It was also waxed on top.
Whats the best way to dispose of a Jimny, call the local dismantler or is there a specialist breaker for them for spares or best way to sell it as spares or repair?

I had a quote from someone who said he’d do the necessary welding for £500 but we’ve decided to scrap it unless someone offers to buy it for spares or repair in the next few days. Welding needed is largely where previous welding repairs were not continuous, yet it passed last years MoT fine so I can only assume that one tester was lax and the latest harsh.
some photos attached. The steel wheels were powder coated a couple of years ago. The dent in the back door isn’t from a car impact but rather from when I slipped a few years ago, fell over and my elbow whacked it, it hurt a lot. Remember it’s old so the interior is very basic, electric windows being the only feature. It’s still got the original radio cassette. The steering wheel vinyl covering has some damage from the crooklock contact points. Averaging less than 1,000 miles per annum over the last 23 years of ownership. Never broken down apart from a flat battery once from leaving the lights on. The insurance is due for renewal so it’s got to go in the next week.

About to contact some scrap yards. I forgot to mention earlier that the tyres are quite recent and probably have only about a thousand miles use on them

I’m not on Facebook or any other social media so have limited options, and limited time now as my partner ( the owner) has told the insurance to not renew in a few days. Had first quote from a breakers but frankly the wheels and tyres are probably worth more.
