engine swap was created by spotdoc67
Hi
I'm new to this site and too Jimny ownership.
I'm picking up a 2006 Jimny with a sick engine (head gasket gone, no idea what state the head is in).
Rather than fixing the engine (which is on 130k) I was thinking about replacing it.
I've seen a M13A from a Suzuki Swift (2005-110 for sale at a reasonable cost with 80k on.
Can someone let me know if this is also a VVT engine and will it fit in and connect up to the Jimny loom and gearbox?

many thanks

Tom

Yes that age will be a VVT. But while you're at it you might as well fit a 1.5. It's exactly the same amount of work and the extra power is very welcome.

You will be using the jimny flywheel and clutch.

Edit: that said, they might be similiar or even equal. (SJ 1985), Jimny G and Jimny M all got the "same" clutch so might even be the same on other Suzukis.

Norway 2005 Jimny M16A VVT, 235 BFG MT, 2" Trailmaster, ARB rear lck, 17%/87% high/low gears.

When swapping M15A into Jimny, do ECU, throttle body and other peripherals stay from M13A engine?

You don't have to touch the ECU. Use the throttle body and injectors from the 1.5. Almost everything else needs to be swapped over from the Jimny engine.

I have a 2001 Jimny which I believe is Non-VVT - daft question, but is there any way to tell if it is a VVT engine or not?

I am on the lookout for a replacement engine - ideally something with a bit more power - but trying to find something that will fit is a bit of a job!

The shape of the cylinder head/valve cover - the VVT engines have a pronounced nose to house the cam synchronizer - the engine on the right in the image above is VVT.

Also VVT engines weren't fitted to Jimnys until 2005.

ok cheers guys - having looked, i can confirm it is a 1.3 Non-VVT in my Jimny.

If i were to look for an engine with a bit more power would i need to find a M16A Non-VVT? Are there any other options for me that people are aware of?

Cheers
