Jimny "Hiccups" in Idle was created by Adama
Hi Jimny Gurus

Hope you can help me out.
I own 2006 Jimny 1.3L
Car runs perfectly except when idle.

During idle it sort of "hiccups" for lack of any other term.
Idle on 750rpm nicely and randomly loses rpm to 500 for a millisecond or so.

I changed plugs and coils but no difference.

Hard to explain , so I hope if there is anybody out there that is familiar with this condition might give me some pointers,

Thanx!

Could be the idle control valve needs a clean, could be the breather valve on the rocker cover needs replacing.

Would recommend cleaning/replacing the pcv valve. Guess that's what Busta meant aswell. It should only let air flow through one way, not both. I cleaned one with some brake cleaner (not sure if this was the right way to do it :)), got some gunk out, helped a bit.

It's the yellow part obviously, you can just pull it out.

Oh that pic is off a vitara, but it's kind of similar in jimny aswell I'd think. Has a 90 degree angle.

Thanks guys

I checked the valve cleaned it thoroughly.
Air goes one way only,

Any more thoughts before I have to remove the throttle body to get access to clean the IAC?

Mine has a misfire at idle, every few seconds it misses a beat, and I think it might stall, but it recovers.

Has done it for years. I checked everything that it could be, except valve clearances (a tight valve might cause enough loss of compression at idle) as it needs an expensive gasket and a good deal of enthusiasm.

(My compression tester won't fit, and I don't have one of those new fangled starter current measuring ones)

A couple of others have it too, Rhinoman ( I think ) suggested that it was supposed to.

I tried to access the legendary mode $06 with a scantool, to look at misfire counts to see if it was a missfire but it doesn't seem to support it.

If the misfires exceed a threshold the MIL should set and return a P030X code, where X is the errant cylinder, but it never has.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Yes, its the ECU testing the EGR valve - if it doesn't hiccup then the EGR system is faulty. You can blame the EU and their emissions regulations, in the old days the EGR was just tested during deceleration but if you drive in town all the time that test never happens.
Mode 06 is not compulsory so its not supported, a genuine Suzuki tool uses the 'OBD1' interface.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

Rhinoman, are you saying that these hiccups are by design?
What exactly is happening in the engine?
What is mode 06 everyone is talking about?

Just me ;)

Mode 06 is an advanced diagnostic mode that gives access to the raw data such as running counts of misfires per cylinder.
You need an advanced scantool, as
1) the data is vehicle specific
2) it is presented in hexadecimal.

The vehicle specific part is the problem here, as suzuki don't support much of it via generic OBD, you need the suzuki specific diagnostics to access it.

The cylinder misfire is interesting, as it looks at the change in engine speed as each cylinder fires. If this doesn't match then it flags a misfire against the cylinder. It maintains a running count of misfires, and if the exceed a set % of firing cycles, it sets the MIL and stores a P030X code, otherwise they usually forget the data when the ignition is switched off. I wanted to use this to see if I had a cylinder down, without getting my hands dirty ;)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I think the consensus is if you've not tried it, it is expensive snake oil, if you have tried it it is the best magic fluid ever.

I don't normally bother with magic fluids, but I once put something called Profi-max in my 'bike, and it cleaned out the jets a treat, and saved me stripping the bike to get the carbs off. Only time a magic fluid has ever worked for me. :)

Give it a go if you want, but mine misses the odd beat at idle, as do a fair few others by all accounts, so you may be trying to fix something that isn't broken.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I take it BG 44 is some kind of fuel additive? It won't help clean your throttle body or idle control valve.

I gave it a try yesterday.
My hiccups were GONE within 10minutes of running idle with this stuff!
My jimmy has been suffering from this annoying issue for the last 4 months.
During this time I have replaced:
Sparks
Coils
Pcv valve and vacuum hoses.
Air filter
Cleaned maf sensors
My next stage was IAC cleaning/replacement.

So it turns out that there are some good products that really work.
Unbelievable.
I strongly recommend to try it out
