Fuel gauge stuck half way was created by bigpantz
My fuel gauge has stuck just above 1/2 full. does this mean I don't ever have to buy petrol again
I disconnected the battery to see if it would drop . No it stayed where it was.
Before this happened I ran the fuel so low it nearly conked out , when I took the fuel cap off it was under pressure like
all the air had been sucked out of the tank. Could this be related or just a coincidence.
I had better start reading the manual , I really need the fuel gauge.
Any others with similar experiences.

The air noise is air rushing in i wouldnt think runing out would cause that problem you could try unpluging the sender unit i think there is a multi plug to it just in front of the tank i think there are 2 or 3 plugs

Air rushing is suggest the breather is blocked. The vacuum created can collapse the tank. Have a look underneath at the fuel tank. If it is misshapen, the fuel level arm will be sat against the bottom of the tank but still reading half full.

I'm guessing here but if you unplugged the battery as you say then no amount of plug unplugging will make a difference if does not drop with power loss.. same goes for the sensor which is just a float, if its jammed then when the battery or even ignition is off then it should drop to bottom.
I just checked mine and with battery connected and ignition off its sat on the bottom turn the key and it rises up to half which is about right.
sounds quite simply like the needle is stuck.

yellow streak
I came to the same conclusion but still tried just in case. Disconnected everything.
Tank doesn't look distorted, although once power removed needle would still drop.
Even gave the Dash a good thump.
ill put a little thought into this before I get the BIG HAMMER out :woohoo:

Give the dash above the binnacle a god hard tap with the palm of your hand - not temper tantrum hard, just a sharp shock like tap.
You never know!
