Piston broke! was created by discotroll
There's a joke in there somewhere...
Okay - my ongoing trials have revealed that no.3 piston is broken - at the moment I don't know if its the piston or the con rod or what as i've only just taken the cylinder head off but any piston that wobbles around in the the cylinder and is broken away on one side sure aint right!
So - firstly, is it practical to remove this piston with the engine still in the Jimny (bearing in mind I have nowhere to put the engine, if I take it out)?
Secondly, does anyone have an idea of where I could get the replacement parts online? I am completely car-less without the Jimny so its all by post I'm afraid.
Oh - if anyone wants to suggest an easy engine swap then I'm always open to suggestions...
Thanks Big Jimnys!

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Drain the sump, drop the sump off, (need it off to get the bits out) and you should be able to undo the con rod nuts and push the piston out the top.
If the bore is marked a new piston won't fix it.
How come the piston broke apart anyway, not something that usually happens.

Hello, in those cases it is suggested to dismantle the motor completely and to verify all their internal components carefully
It is a bigger repair

Id get a second hand motor fella if the pistons gone you may have valves damaged ect so head repairs aint cheap. You may have scoredthe bore meaning it will need to be rebored/relined its a expensive way about things

Okay - I've been out and undone the sump bolts - can't seem to understand the picture in the maunal about taking the clutch housing lower plate off that holds the back end on (looks like I need to remove the large nots/bolts around the complete housing?). If anyone has any experience with this??
I've got this far I might as well see what's wrong - the simple swap thing is attractive, but if I dont have to spend the money.... Head and valves all look in good condition, as does the cylinder bore....
Any more thoughts always appreciated....

If the head looks ok and the bore and crank seem good then for the price of a head gasket and an oil change I'd try a second hand piston in it. What have you got to lose? If it doesn't work you still need a fresh motor.
Is it a sohc g13b by any chance and cylinder 3?
