No, not the cam tensioner pulley. I meant the one on the outside, just above the power steering pump...

This is the one that I replaced on my G13BB engine.

The rusty lump of metal in my photo is the power steering belt tensioner on a twin cam. (not VVT) It is actually an 88mm OD bearing that runs on the back of the power steering belt. To tension the belt, follow the directions in pink to move the whole pulley.

As to the original post, I suspect a slack belt, steering or alternator, which is now slipping because of dampness from the original splashing through water. The squeaky clutch is probably dirt on the cable end, or rust forming inside the clutch housing.

(At the risk of shouts of heresy, I avoid significant water, and especially muddy water: I'm too old now to fix the damage that it does)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I've just had it looked over by a mechanic friend.

Clutch is on its way out. When clutch pedal is down no noise, when up a squeak from a bearing.

Are they prone to go? Expensive? Only had it a week!

Thanks for all the replies!

Do you mean a squeak like a little mouse sqikk sqikk =a dry pivot/cable
a squeal like a cat outside at midnight = bearing is shot /something is rubbing metal on metal
or a whirring rummbly sound = input shaft bearing or layshaft bearings in gearbox?
