I also remember at my last M.O.T. he said that the ball joint was pitted which obviously won't create a proper seal and I have had a look and it is slightly rough with a few imperfections. he also said the only way to sort that would be to replave the axle? Thought it was a tad extreme lol. When I got the car it was 9 years old and had only done 22k so I think it being idle for all those years may have been the cause.

I'm not too sure how long it has been leaking but judging by the state of the inside of my alloys a while :S is this the oil from the diff in the middle of the axle or another type? I don't think it running dry can do it any good :P
