Nah mate, not all of them had immobilisers and not all had them in the keys. Earlier Jimny's had keyring remote for immobiliser/keyless entry.

Yes - as far as I am aware all UK Jimnys had chip based immobilisers.

If the immobiliser light is on then it could be a dislodged or broken pickup coil behind the ignition key, this is quite a common fault.

Ok, current status:

I borrowed an Innovate Motorsports LM2 that can read all kinds of odbII values. However, it seems it struggles with the Jimny. Anyone else having problems reading from the odbII connector? Found some posts about that but I thought it was with older cars, mine is a 1998. I'll move on with that pin-trick that was proposed.

Immobilizer - I have no immobilizer light and no mensioning of an immobiliser in the manual.

Will keep you posted, really really annoying this...

An obdii reader will only work with a 2001+

Good answer... 8-) I tried the blinking CEL trick and unfortunately, all I got was blink - blink blink, ie 12 = everything normal... Even filled up the tank in case the fuel meter would be wrong. I think it is back to old fashioned error seeking. As it fires a few times when furiously pedaling the throttle while cranking, I'll start with the fuel system.
