Engine died and will not restart??? *** Fixed! ***

Hello! I would greatly appreciate any helpful ideas here... I was driving along and all of a sudden the car just dies without warning, not coughing nor spluttering, it just died without making any special sounds at all. It will not restart, but turns over fine on the starter. Once I try to start and floor the throttle, it actually shows sign of life but then quickly dies again. My thoughts have been 1) Generator - whereby the battery would die and not give enough power to the ecu. The stopping experience would fit that but as I put starter cables to another car, it does not make sense. 2) Lambda - totally wrong mixture?!? Would the car die immediately? Fit the starting problems now though 3) Camshaft sensor - the seller I bought it from had had a number of problems so that was changed a year ago or so I am told. 4) Any other ideas?

Updated: I had itresting for a few weeks while thinking a bit. I disconected the lambda and it ran very weakly, but it ran... Ordered a new lambda and voila' - it works!! Strangest error ever as itstopped working while driving.

Right, the Jimny is from 1998, ie G13B engine. 200000miles on the clock but ran really well until this....

I'd suggest borrowing a cam-angle sensor from someone else who has a G13BB engine and see how that goes. Fairly common problem with that motor as they seem to leak oil from the rocker cover gasket at the rear, right next to the cam-angle sensor.

No immobilizer, I have got just ordinary keys. The c-e-l trick is interesting, but I have sourced an odbIi reader, will test that one first. Then we will see what is indicated. Will keep you updated! Weirdest dead engine I've run into.... Thanks for the replies! //Fredrik

the imobilizer works on a chip in the key all jimnys have them when you turn ignition on the eml will flash if there is a fault with the imobilizer loosing its code
