I'll do a diagram later, I'm gonna use a rocker switch, on/off/on.
One to just have spots on, the off to have the lights off at all time even with the main beam on, and the other (on) for the spots to come on when u put the main beam on, if that makes sense, I confuse my self sometimes!

There is a problem with your diagram, you have both the wire before and after the switch going to the same terminal, which will complete the circuit, negating the switch.

I thought a 2 mode switch would have 4 terminals, if it is an illuminated one, one terminal for input, output 1, output 2, and earth. Unless the switch you have isn't illuminated.

This is how I would do it:

If you use an illuminated switch on the trigger wire, the switch would work as per normal, but the switch will always be illuminated, as the trigger is an active 12V line. I believe this is due to when the switch is in the off position, output 1 and output 2 are being earthed on the switch (as in a normal circuit these wouldn't be active), causing the light to illuminate.

As you have setup in your diagram, you have both the output 1 and output 2 running off your trigger line, if you use output 2 (bypass headlight switch) then you would be running them off your trigger power, which is your headlight power, therefore I would put the switch on the input line.

Hope its not too confusing.

By the way, Renard's diagram would work as well, but only with a non illuminated single mode switch. A double mode switch would work but as I stated above, I believe it would use the headlight's power which is something you don't want.
