Uprated Battery ?? was created by Gromit
Has anybody fitted an uprated battery into the standard battery mount ?. The standard battery on mine struggles as I only use it at weekends so any suggestions would be welcome.

i have a optima yellow top battary mounted the opposite side with a split charge system, works really well
it runs my winch, its the gel type battary so it has a really deep cycle
could be worth doing that if you have a winch and spot lights ect,

I have been thinking of getting one of these

Would be a good replacement for the standard battery particularly if you have a winch. On cars fitted with abs its difficult to fit a bigger or second battery on the passenger side under the bonnet.

I have a Numax, which would not fit in the normal battery tray so it now lives in the boot.
I have done quite alot of winching in a day with only the standard alternator and have not needed any more.
What is the difference between a red top and a yellow top though - is one a starting battery and the other for winching or what??? Never really known the answer to that.
It appears to have more power than an Optima with 1000cca and is alot cheaper. The only thing is it is still a lead acid battery - albeit one that can cope with deep discharging.
I'm happy with mine though!

The red top is really a starting battery with a high output. The yellow top is a starting and deep cycle battery so is a good replacement if you just want one battery for say starting and winching. There is also a blue top which is even more of a deep cycle battery , but could be used for starting and deep cycling.
Perhaps the advantage of Optima batteries is that they can be use on their side, or whatever, as they are gel filled and won't therefore leak.
Having said that I think the Numax is an excellent all round battery although perhaps one that doesn't like to be inverted!
