The pipe I'm thinking of is copper, and from hazy memory, about 10mm diameter.

Ordinary brakepipe with threaded tee pieces is one solution, but I'm fairly sure nylon pipe will do the job.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I've bought 4mm silicone vacuum hose now with nylon t-juntions and straight connectors to use at the stock flexible tubing at the hubs. It was the t-junctions that swayed me away from copper as I don't have a flaring tool.

i don't see why either the silicone or copper or a mix of the two wouldn't work, only advice I'd give is don't fix them to the leading arm with tywraps try to keep the screw fixing. One of mine had broken and i put a tywrap round it but it got broken on the first outing.
cheers,
John.

Hi everyone, successfully used silicone vacuum hose today. The actual vacuum created is tiny compared to the specifications of the hose. I only needed to replace the section that runs over the front axle and it would have been incredibly easy if the hub release solenoid VSV1 hadn't been busted too. After testing for hours to find the problem I can now engage 4wd from inside the car but have to pop the bonnet and use the release hose direct off the engine to get back to 2wd. Any ideas as to how much the solenoids are anyone?
