Thanks 300,

I meant the new V8 3door. so its not a real direct comparison.
I was also keen on getting an Autobiography 90 Defender, but 80k+ for a 2016 diesel which cost 62k was a bit difficult to swallow, almost as much as 120k for the V8, but that's another topic.

I will check re the front roll bar. Would have thought its still there else I'd be informed.

Hardrace do a stiffer anti roll bar with quick disconnect so you can get the best of both, increased on road stability whilst off road ability is not compromised which is what I asked in my original post.

re caster correction bushes, good point, I will ask about this. appreciate the feedback.

I still have the stock rims and tyres so I can get them back on and do a comparison.

Funny you should mention the twisted video as I have just watched it and did notice the mention of offering a rear anti roll bar.
Can't find anything online either.

Welcome. I have two Jimnys both with lift kits and another which is stock all running the same mud terrain tires. The blue one in the photo below has a pedders lift. Compared to stock the car is stiffer and takes the bumps much better. For a lift I find it has little to no sway compared to my White Jimny which has another brand lift kit fitted  and that does have more sway around corners so I find the blue one to be the best handling car out of my fleet. So going forward with yours I would try having a demo in a standard Jimny before spending significant money on mods just to see how it rides as you may be in the wrong car all together if you find it scary. Have a search on YouTube for the Twisted automotive Jimny. They have been putting one of the top end lift kits on their cars and have even fitted a rear anti roll bar which is unusual for Jimnys. The reviews claim it dramatically changes the Jimnys handling although these have been more car journalists rather than experienced jimny owners. I would like to try one with a rear anti roll bar to see if it has any affect as I find the new jimny more planted to the road compared the previous model.
Are you still recommending the Pedders lift kit for a 2018+ Jimny?

I had a quick look and saw they were in the store but on the Pedders site it shows the kit with a steering damper, which isn’t in the kit in the store, is a new steering damper really required?

Any idea how long it takes to fit, is there a guide or am I better getting the local garage to do it?

That would be great, but I am not sure when I will get chance, I would like to get it done before the weather changes, but I seem to have a lot on for the next couple of weeks.

Fitting isn't too bad, but I'd give yourself the best part of a day and ideally if you have someone helping you. It's not that hard, but there is a fair bit to take off and refit. A shop with a high-lift and several bodies should be able to turn it around in more like 3hrs I'd have said, maybe less if they wanted too.

However, I'd ask what do you want to use the vehicle for and what are your goals? I know you lane and do some non aggressive trials. Have either of these highlighted any shortcomings you'd like to improve or try and remove from the Jimny?

I watched one of your laning vids the other week. All of the Land Rover's just drove through an obstacle, but it looked like the Jimny struggle somewhat.

Obviously I like the Jimny as I have one and haven't sold it. But I would say they have some fairly serious shortcomings off road compared to a 100% standard Land Rover 90.

-Lack of suspension flex
-Lack of ground clearance
-Tiny wheels

I don't really know much about Pedders as a brand, but the kit looks rather basic and minimal specs. I'd suggest it is more for visual appearance than enhanced ability. It'll give you a little more under chassis clearance and improve all the angles, but not by a huge amount and it doesn't look like it'll offer any form of significant gain in suspension travel.

If I didn't have access to multiple Land Rover's for more serious off road work, I would certainly have wanted to do something quite different to the Jimny. I have a full 2" lift kit that did improve travel and run bigger tyres. The Jimny is great and the TCS makes up a lot of ground, but purely from a suspension point of view, it still doesn't match a 100% stock Land Rover 90 for ability.

Not saying this is the exact setup I'd run, but this Jimny looks good and seems to perform brilliantly from a suspension point of view and solves all 3 of my issues with the factory Jimny.

My primary goal is to get a bit more ground clearance for the local trials.  I realise I am never going to get the same as some of the Land Rovers at our club, but I often bottom out on some of the stages, it’s to try and stop this.

At the last two trials I have been to (including Sunday) it was won by a Jimny Gen 3 with 2” lift and Special Track 205/70R15 tyres.  I did touch bottom on Sunday but managed to push my way through, the extra 2” would have been helpful, I only dropped to 4th place as I missed a gate out.  Most trials I do, I ended up bottoming out and not always on the diffs.

More travel or progressive suspension would be nice and if the Pedders doesn’t offer this then it might be worth looking at alternatives, hence the post.

I don’t want to get silly turning the car in to a competition machine (I will leave crawling over large boulders to others), it’s still used mostly on the road, just wanted to gain a bit more clearance when it’s needed.
