Vimes has a harness clipped to the upper rear seatbelts point for regular journeys and a big cage for longer. Neither of which present any issues with through loading longer items unlike a fixed panel.

I believe the dog partition was not deemed strong enough to stop a largish dog entering the front seats at speed in a frontal collision
