I'd be interested to hear what you guys have to say about the Grenadier? Personally design wise having followed the creation from the beginning and watched all of the YouTube updates over the past year, I think it looks like one of the best engineered 4x4's available. Possibly the only thing in the world I'd trade my Gen.4 for? :laugh:
I bet the guys over at JLR are s**ting themselves........

Yeah I'm not trying to discredit the new Defender, but after all the Grenadier will be in the same class (at least from a price point of view) and In my opinion is the better choice for anyone wanting a 'no frills' tried and tested off-roader. Like you said they've outsourced the running gear to a specialist that manufactures nothing other than running gear for plant machinery and tractors and they're offering tried and tested BMW engines both of which have been awarded engine of the year on several occasions.

Any real reason? It's not as if Jimny's are built in Wales. And in fairness, Ineos wasn't actually building cars in Wales at any point.

Always have a good chuckle when I see this response.
Looks like a good vehicle. They have definitely put some time and effort into making it a rugged yet modern 4x4. I like how it draws from the G Wagon and elements of other historic 4x4’s. I think it will be too rich for the ‘old’ defender boys who duct tape their old landy’s back together, but it is what it is. I do agree with their decision to move it out of the UK for manufacturing on a cost and sustainability basis. Best of luck to them - I will be looking at how it goes and then making a decision based on the real world reviews.

l like the look of the Grenadier, it looks to me like what Land Rover should have done with the old Defender.
Sadly the price is too high, £45,000 puts it out of my reach, although there is a SWB version on the way which will be around £5,000 less.
l've driven the new Defender and while obviously very capable it's just another generic LR product. 83 computers in it, you're not going to fix that in the middle of the Simpson Desert.
But nobody will take one there. l hope the Grenadier is a success, although it will take time to make inroads back into the utility 4x4 market that Land Rover had lost by the 1990's due to not investing in Defender.

So that's the work community out, it only leaves it as a possible Chelsea tractor and the badge is not established enough for this.
Ineso, they make chemicals and hand sanitiser and are having a go at a 4x4....... No pedigree for the badge chasers.
So that leaves the need to be different people as customers, and they tend to keep things for a year then move on to the latest and greatest.
Only my view on the potential Ineos customer base, I am sure they have done their homework and have a different view.
Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

But then again, the new Jimny has sold to a fair number of people who just liked the look of it and could have had a VW T-Cross, or any other generic crossover.
There's a possibility that the Grenadier may succeed in the Military market, and people like Mountain Rescue, who are still using the old Defender.
l was talking to someone from Mountain Rescue and they've just had their Defenders overhauled as there's "nothing else" that can do the job.

Utilities aren't going to buy it; they like dependability and a lease/service network as they plan to run them for 5 years or so. Land Rover offered that and to be honest that market has been gobbled up by Ford, Toyota, Nissan etc. Ineos doesn't have this, they don't have the reliability record.
Emergency services won't as they're expensive and there's a limited reliability record. Local MR group has bought Ford Rangers; at the end of the day these groups are charities and have to buy with value for money and being responsible with charitable income.
Farmers aren't going to buy it. They want a tool that does the job. A bog standard Ford Ranger does that far cheaper than the Ineos.
Off roaders aren't going to buy it. They aren't going to spend £40k on something to bounce it about green lanes. They're going to buy second hand Jimnys, Discos, Defenders etc like they've always done.
Who does it leave? Sod all I think. If it's anything other than a flop than I'll be surprised.
