JB74 mudflaps

Have mudflaps on my Jimny and as a mostly road bias vehicle they keep the muck off the side paintwork and the back door. My experience of mud flaps on my off road vehicle is that if they are long enough to work, when you reverse, you may rip them off as they get trapped between the ruts and the tyre
Does depend upon the terrain, but something to consider if you go to pay and play sites.
You can of course tie them up out of the way if you hit the rough stuff, at which point they are pointless :laugh:

However I still wanted to stop the mud finding all the hiding places under the wheel arch, in particular the rear arch which was a mud trap. So I made some alloy mud shields and fitted them in the arch to stop mud getting between the body and the chassis. They work very well, but it's a DIY solution.
The Jimny has similar issues at the rear, so if I was to off-road mine I would look at doing similar.

Think it would be worth leaving a fill piece where you have cut out? or not really possible? would like to try and keep muck and spray out of the rear light area in the bumper cavity

I decided to cut it back as much as possible. The reason being, unless you can seal it off really well mud and dirt will accumulate and stay damp. With the cut out, yes you get a fair bit of mud but it is easy to wash out with the hose pipe. The rear light units seem pretty good for waterproofing anyway.

There are these from Japan, but work out expensive with fiting kit and flaps, even the flaps alone are expensive.
JAOS mudflaps

I wanted some big wide mudflaps for mine, Almost Defender like. I remembered I had a unused set from my WRX Impreza. They fit absolutely perfect. The only thing i had to modify was the hole positions. They cost me £40 for the set. The fronts are held in with some trim clips I had laying about and the rear are bolted onto a bracket(which were in the kit) as the inside of the rear wheel arch there is no support and I didn't want them flapping about rubbing the rear tyre. I do agree with the rear arches are a big mud trap but i cant see a easy way as I think they would almost need a arch cover inside the rear. I was just hoping the ones I've put on will stop the lights, exposed wires and connectors getting hammered with water and general road grime.

What year are the flaps for though? Now i can have my defender style flaps it seems

Yours look great by the way, but id preder a matt finish on mine instead of the gloss finish on yours.

But yeah.. ..... welcomed news that is!
