:
A very scathing dissection of the Australian car market. OK, he's got an axe to grind (probably more than one), but it makes you think twice. And if something works Down Under it will probably work here.

Hate to say it, but i think you had a lucky escape. That Yeti is one ugly mother humper. It aint even FUGLY,
The Karoq is a good looker, but its price is intimating.
For a mid range SE-L with 4x4 ...or rather AWD, are around 26,500 with Carwow with a discount of 2,350. Off-road videos are very uneventful, and all these SUV's nowadays are seemingly weak fashion statements. Around 95% of sales are for FWD poser mobiles, Guy at Skoda looked at me gone out when interest ws shown in the 4x4 model
True 4x4 off-road'ers are mega expensive, and there all horrible looking imo.
Jimny is in a league of its own thats for sure.

Yeah it dont surprise me buddy,
Thanks fr that video Guy. Yeah it kinda lays out what i was already thinking about these mainstream cars. Looked inside most of them this week:
Jeep renegade = Awful looking in the flesh, expensive and terrible build quality and interior
Jeep Rubicon = 40k!! A monster in the flesh, bloody HUGE it is.
Peugeot = NO, JUST NO
Volvo XC40 = 35K+ for an AWD.
Ford Kuga AWD = Again 30k+ for a mid spec. Reviews are awful for it.
Volkswagen Tiagan = 34k+ for AWD. Another SUV playing at being a 4x4.
Jaguar E-Pace = Again 35k for AWD. Good looker, but tosh reliability etc.
The SUV craze is weird. Big bulky cars, most being driven FWD (front wheel drive). What is the point in them really! Poser mobiles!

If your looking at other options, may I suggest taking a look at the Subaru XV or Forester. Granted they are not hardcore off road vehicles, but you are getting permanent awd as standard. We've owned many Subarus over the years in our family and they have always been mega reliable and great cars.
I did quite a selection of green lanes in a mk1 forester, its surprising what they are capable of with a decent set of tyres. Have a look up some videos of the XV, there are quite a lot of off road accessories available such as lift kits etc.
I sympathise with your situation with the Jimny, I had a lot of trouble with the first dealer I was with too. I would encourage you to stick it out as it really is a great car.

I used to think like that- What is the point in a crippled 4x4?
However, I now think that with what passes for "roads" around here something with off road suspension and decent ground clearance is what I need just to drive about, so I can see the point in saving several thousand on the price.
If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there
