How many revs?

Having had my jimny for a week now and trying to adjust my style of driving to suit, I'm trying to work how to get best fuel consumption. Any ideas?

I'm trying to resist the temptation to get it dirty before I make sure everything apart form the 4 wheel drive is all working properly.

the way to get the best fuel consumption from the jimny is,,,,
park it in the garage and throw away the key. :evil:

I've found sticking to roads with a 30/40mph speed limit works for me as soon as you get on a dual carriage way or motor way and take it above 55 the fuel level drops pretty quick!

mind you i've got a rocklobster and bigger wheels than standard.

Keep it on standard road tyres
Blow the tyres up hard. (Don't go mad, just use the upper limit of the recommended pressures)
Try not to let the rev counter go below 1700 when pulling (or it will shudder and vibrate)
or above 3000 (plenty fast enough in 5th)
Don't press the accelerator more than 1" or so.
Never ever touch the brakes (except in an emergency)
Don't knock it out of gear when slowing down (coasting), this uses more fuel than overrunning because the fuel is cut off above tick over.

You might get as much as 33mpg around town, and 40+ on a run

If it is an auto, you need to go fast enough to get the torque converter to lock up, and not let it slow down enough to unlock, likely keep it at 45-50mph. (gets interesting in town centres )

Thanks for the reply's. It's on standard wheels and tryes, I was aiming to stick to the 3k mark it just takes a bit of getting used. After my terrano, anything over about 22mph will be bonus.
