Mounting rock sliders/side steps??

Hi everyone,

My first topic here, i hope i have posted it in the right section.

Anyway the time has come for me to get some sill protection for the jimny. I can make my own as i am a boilermaker/welder, but i'm not to sure how to mount the rock slider/side steps to the jimny chassis. I can not weld to the chassis due to Australian laws, so that is one option out.

I have been looking around the internet for ages but can't seem to find any photo's of how they have been bolted on. If someone could please help me figure out how to bolt them on that would be great? And if you have photos of how they have been secured to the chassis even better.

Can you drill the chassis to fix a bracket,or make a bracket to bolt around the chassis.

I don't think i can legally drill into the chassis will have to check on that. Thoose brackets have just given me a idea.

Ok here;s some very rough paint drawings in theory they should work from what measurements i have taken, but in practice they may no work.

You appear to have it sorted but if you have not gone into production of them yet it mght be worth having an email chat with Darren at KAP Suzuki and / or Rob at Off Road Armoury here in the UK.

I know Darren was looking at having some bolt on Rock Sliders made up from when I made enquiries some time ago. I don't know how far he got. I have welded on ones though.

Rob Butler at Off Road Armoury is a helpful chap and I'm sure has looked at the idea in the past.

They maybe able to tel you what some of the pitfalls are before you make yours so you can draw from their experience and save you from making mistakes they have already made or tell you that something won't work from calculations they've made with kit you don't have access to.

The showy side steps i had on when i first bought mine were bolted to the long body bolts that protrude underneath then had brackets around the chassis. The bolts stopped them moving front to back but the brackets were so weak that they soon got bent when i got hooked up on them. Something beefier and lower profile should work

A few of my mates have built there's similar to them, but i thought i might just add a gusset for a bit of overkill.

How about a bracket like this it maybe a lot stronger.

Yes in theory that will be very strong, but don't forget you have brake line's or some other lines running down the chassis rail on the driver's side, so this would only work on the passenger side.
